The Rain – Season 1

The Rain – Season 1

Season 1 of The Rain takes place in a future version of Scandinavia where life has almost completely stopped because of a deadly virus carried by rainfall. This virus is extremely dangerous—once rain touches a person’s skin, the infection spreads quickly and leads to death. Because of this, people are forced to stay indoors, and over time, cities become silent and empty. Roads are filled with abandoned vehicles, buildings fall apart, and nature slowly reclaims the land, showing how fragile human civilization really is.

The series mainly focuses on Simone and her younger brother Rasmus. Their father is a scientist working for a powerful company called Apollon. When he realizes how serious the situation is, he hides his children inside a secure underground bunker. He promises Simone that he will return soon, but days turn into years, and he never comes back. For six long years, the siblings live alone in isolation, growing up without human contact, relying only on stored food, water, and each other for emotional support.

As time passes, their supplies begin to run out, leaving them with no option but to leave the bunker. When Simone and Rasmus finally step outside, they are shocked by what they see. The world is quiet, broken, and full of danger. There are no signs of normal life—only empty streets, ruined buildings, and constant fear of rain. Even the smallest rainfall forces them to hide immediately, reminding them that survival depends on staying alert every moment.

During their journey, they meet a group of other survivors who are also trying to stay alive in this harsh world. Each person in the group has suffered deep losses, such as losing family members or friends to the virus. Because of these painful experiences, trust does not come easily. However, they soon realize that surviving alone is far more dangerous than working together. Slowly, the group begins to support one another, sharing food, protecting each other, and forming bonds that feel like a new family.

As the group travels through forests, abandoned towns, and destroyed cities, they begin finding clues about the origin of the virus. It becomes clear that the outbreak may not have been a natural disaster. Their discoveries point toward Apollon, the same company where Simone and Rasmus’s father worked. Simone starts to believe that her father may have been involved in research connected to the virus, which makes her determined to uncover the truth, even if it puts her and the group at risk.

Rasmus becomes especially important as strange changes begin to appear in him. Unlike others, he seems to react differently to the virus, suggesting that he may be immune or connected to it in some unknown way. This discovery gives the group hope that a cure could exist, but it also places Rasmus in serious danger. If the wrong people find out about him, they may try to use him for their own goals. Simone feels torn between protecting her brother and understanding what his condition could mean for the future of humanity.

Season 1 strongly focuses on themes like survival, family, trust, sacrifice, and moral decisions. It shows how people change when the rules of society disappear and how difficult choices must be made in order to stay alive. At the same time, the series highlights the importance of hope and human connection, even in a world filled with fear and loss.

The season ends with shocking revelations about Rasmus and Apollon, raising many unanswered questions and preparing the story for bigger conflicts ahead. Overall, Season 1 of The Rain offers an emotional, suspenseful, and thought-provoking beginning that keeps viewers deeply engaged and eager to continue the journey.
